The Year 5 Curriculum

Reading:

Each half term, Year 5 will focus on a high-quality book where they will continue to learn the skills of fluency & comprehension.  The book is also used as a stimulus to develop pupils writing skills in a variety of different genres.

Accelerated Reading will continue next academic year where pupils will regularly choose books from our school library or reading corners where they can read for pleasure at school and at home. All pupils are given a username and password to answer a quiz on completion of the book to check their understanding.

Maths:

Healey JIN School is adopting a Mastery Approach to Maths where pupils are taught Maths’s skills daily which develops pupil’s fluency, problem solving & reasoning skills. It is important that they know their times tables. All pupils have access to the website Times Tables Rockstars to help them practice.
